Experienced Representation for Minnesota Public Sector Entities
At Everett Law, LLC, we serve governmental entities throughout the state of Minnesota. Our clients include cities, municipal governments, counties and state agencies. Contact us for more information.
In our governmental practice, we handle a broad range of issues, including:
-
Litigation. We represent government agencies throughout Minnesota in state and federal courts. The types of cases we handle include employment practices, data practices, negligence, First Amendment, and unfair labor practices. Because of our backgrounds in law enforcement, we are frequently engaged to defend city and county law enforcement agencies against a wide variety of claims including false arrest, false imprisonment, wrongful search and seizure, excessive force, failure to prevent suicide, deliberate indifference and police misconduct.
-
Administrative proceedings. We represent government agencies in responding to charges brought before the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Minnesota Department of Human Rights, and local human rights agencies and departments. We also represent our governmental clients in unemployment compensation proceedings.
-
Advice and consulting. Clients engage us to help them deal with thorny employment and law enforcement matters and also on an ongoing basis to provide advice and consulting on public sector labor and employment matters.
-
Customized training. As part of our service to the law enforcement community, we create a monthly, 1-hour POST-accredited training program that is delivered through a partnership of the League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust, the Minnesota Counties Insurance Trust, the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association and the Minnesota Sheriffs Association. We are frequently asked to speak at seminars for public sector human resources professionals and law enforcement officers.
Our Approach
When governmental entities come to us for legal counsel, we conduct a comprehensive early analysis of any claims, evaluating the known risks, the client's sensitivity to those risks, the potential liability of the governmental body and the likelihood of success. We will begin our investigation as soon as practicable and provide you with a detailed analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of your case. If there are significant risks or potential liabilities, we will provide you with as many options as we can for minimizing or avoiding these risks.
